DON’T BE
A STATISTIC.

HX Impact is a creative research and evaluation studio decentering data and recentering humans in the art of meaning-making.

We don’t treat data like the main character. We consider the lives, choices, conditions, contradictions, and systems behind it. Then we bring it all together through thoughtful research design, rigorous analysis, and creative storytelling.

Because data can tell you what happened. Human experience helps you understand what it means.

MAKE IT MEAN
SOMETHING.

Research that means something starts long before the findings. The MEAN Method keeps human experience present at every stage—from deciding what deserves our attention to making sense of what we find.

M

M IS FORMATTER

Matter: Something of importance, consequence, or concern. As a verb, to have significance.

Before we ask what can be measured, we ask what matters—and to whom. We get clear on the real question, the stakes, and the people whose experiences should shape the work.

E

E IS FOREVIDENCE

Evidence: Information that helps establish what is true, likely, or worth believing.

Evidence is more than whatever fits neatly into a spreadsheet. We gather what the question actually calls for—numbers, stories, observations, records, lived experiences, or some meaningful combination of them.

A

A IS FORANALYSIS

Analysis: The careful examination of something complex to understand its parts, patterns, and relationships.

The fanciest method is not always the right one. We choose an approach that fits the question, the evidence, and the context—then look closely enough to find what matters without manufacturing what isn’t there.

N

N IS FORNARRATIVE

Narrative: An account that connects information, events, and experiences in a way that creates meaning.

Findings do not speak for themselves. We construct a clear, honest narrative about what the evidence shows, what it doesn’t, why it matters, and what you might do next.

I’M ASHLEY.

ASHLEY
MONCRIEFT, PH.D.

I’m a researcher, evaluator, and meaning-maker with a Ph.D. in Psychology, a master’s degree in Public Health, and more than a decade of experience leading research and evaluation across nonprofits, foundations, public health, and the arts.

Through all of it, I’ve learned the same lesson again and again: evidence is most powerful when it is rooted in human experience.

For me, research is both analytical and creative—an art and a science. It requires rigor, but also curiosity. Structure, but also imagination. Expertise, but also enough humility to recognize when the numbers aren’t telling the whole story.

I created HX Impact because too much research loses the human experience somewhere along the way. People become variables. Communities become samples. Complexity becomes a caveat buried at the end of a report.

I believe research can be more human, more beautiful, and more meaningful.

And I’m here for it.
